Protest song in Sunday Life newspaperAn article on a protest song that has a performance by the Savanna Sky bassist has appeared in today's Sunday Life newspaper.
Click the image to read the article -  The song, "Me and Bob Mugabe", a take on Kris Kristofferson's "Me and Bobby Magee" with new lyrics, was written and recorded to highlight the situation in Zimbabwe under Robert Mugabe. The idea to record the song came from Morgan Moore, a local singer/songwriter and friend of the band, who grew up in South Africa until his family moved to Belfast when he was a teenager. The other musicians on the track are Neil Lavery of Canizares and Jack Forgey. A musical slideshow is on youtube (see below).  NEW songs! The Belfast-Nashville songwriting talks and workshops have inspired the band's main songwriter, Alan McShane, to write a flury of 4 new songs (generally finishing at 5am!) & probably the best he's written in terms of lyrics. So a HUGE thanks to the inspiration of all the wonderful songwriters who made their way over here from the USA and elsewhere, all the the local talent and everyone that performed - it was a real success. It was also great to make new musical friends...there is so much musical talent here. A special huge shout to Ralph Murphy, Iain Archer and Tobias Froberg who simply were life-changing.  unplugged sessionCatching up with old friends+good music=a great night at the John Hewitt singer/songwriter night. In the first Savanna Sky live acoustic session for a while, Saffron (vocals), Steve (acoustic) and Alan (bass) played a few numbers to a small but generous reception at the John Hewitt, Monday evening. Also performing were close band friends Morgan, with his 1st live performance in over 2 years, and Kaz, with her 1st EVER gig playing her own acoustic material - both were simply outstanding! This is a great vehicle to get the vocals of Saffron out there and air some new band material so we will repeat this sometime soon here and in other venues. Posts 1 - 12 of 22

 The Mackie Blog, an initial trial by guitarist Steve at blogging / world domination, is online now. September '06: The Big Buzz magazine included an interview with the band in the September issue. 6th April '06 Savanna Sky featured on the Just Jones show, BBC Radio Ulster. We enjoyed a 20minute showcase on the Just Jones show, playing a LIVE acoustic session and chatting with George. Listen to a sound clip (in MP3 format) of the very positive reactions of George and listeners who contacted the show.
